In this pivotal narrative, Morpheus discovers his realm is missing and traces its location to Hell itself. He journeys through the underworld to negotiate its return from Lucifer Morningstar. The story explores the weight of responsibility as Dream confronts the fallen angel who holds his kingdom hostage. A tense dialogue ensues where Lucifer offers Dream the keys to Hell itself, tempting him with power over damnation. Dream refuses, recognizing he cannot rule a realm built on punishment without losing himself. Consequently, Lucifer decides to abdicate and leave Hell empty, granting Dream his kingdom back while walking away from his own domain forever. This arc introduces Johanna Constantine, who aids Dream in navigating the mortal consequences of these cosmic shifts.
